Every milliCare commercial cleaning franchise owner has many opportunities to provide input, from the annual meeting to regular status calls and the owners’ advisory council. So it’s no surprise that their many suggestions make it to the corporate team, including one about additional training that has led to a new program for supervisors.
“It’s not something we had done before, but when council members started talking about things they’d like to see, training for supervisors came up pretty quickly,” says Brian Morgan, Franchise Business Manager. “I was asked to start putting something together, and we’ve recently wrapped up our first session.”
The training allows owners to send employees to meet with Morgan and spend a couple of days digging into what makes a milliCare commercial floor cleaning franchise tick. The idea, he says, is to get them thinking beyond the nuts and bolts of any specific job.
“We have developed a curriculum, which will always be a work in progress, about what it is to be a supervisor,” Morgan explains. “It all comes from the fact that franchises need supervisors on job sites, because more often than not these are jobs of some size, and crews that are large. It’s a lot of responsibility for someone, and our goal is to make sure that they have the training and support to make sure the job is done well and efficiently.”
When the program was developed and ready for launch, Morgan advertised it to franchise owners and several sent a member or members of their team. The two-day event was mostly made up of current supervisors, although more owners are expected to send newly promoted ones in the future. As of now, the training is a mix of interactive engagement activities and study sessions, as well as a review of checklists and other steps that are necessary at every job.
“It’s something really fresh and new for us, and I have a lot of ideas that have come out of the first one,” Morgan says. “I believe this is going to be a very valuable offering for us. It’s a lot more than just what a supervisor is and does; it’s about how to be a team leader and the soft skills you need to manage correctly. Now I am eager to work with the people who have come through it, get more feedback, and have an even more complete curriculum for the next one.”
